Christopher Nolan praises Wonder Woman, unlikely to return to the superhero genre

July 14, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Although he remained nominally involved with the DC universe following The Dark Knight Trilogy by serving as producer on Man of Steel and receiving an executive producer credit on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Christopher Nolan has now moved away from the DCEU as he focusses on other projects – most notably his latest film, the World War II epic Dunkirk.

Nevertheless, Nolan has revealed to Yahoo! Movies that he continues to keep on top of the DCEU, albeit as a fan, and can’t see himself returning to the superhero genre following his three Batman movies.

“I did [see Wonder Woman] and I loved it. I mean, I watch the films. I enjoy films very much as a moviegoer these days. I spent 10 years of my life dealing with one of the greatest characters in popular fiction. It was a great honor and a privilege to work with that, but there’s a time to pass it on to new people.”

“Dunkirk opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.”

Dunkirk is set for release on July 21st 2017 and features a cast that includes Nolan regulars Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy alongside Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, Jack Lowden, James D’Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney and newcomer Fionn Whitehead.
