More Episode IX delays, Nightwing update, The LEGO Movie 2 details and more – Daily News Roundup

September 15, 2017 by Luke Owen

MORE DELAYS FAR, FAR AWAY

With the Star Wars: Episode IX getting a new script and a pushed back release date, it should come as no surprise that the movie’s production has been pushed back too. Variety are reporting that Lucasfilm has now delayed the start of principal photography on Episode IX. Originally slated to begin in this coming January, cameras will now start rolling in June 2018. RETURN OF HAN?

Despite his conclusion in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, GQ Magazine thought to ask Harrison Ford about a possible return to the galaxy far, far away. “Um, I mean, I’m finished with Star Wars if Star Wars is finished with me,” said Ford. And when asked if Star Wars was finished with him, Ford responded: “I can’t imagine it. But it is science fiction.” Read more here.

NIGHTWING DETAILS

In a new interview with Collider to plug The LEGO Ninjago Movie, Chris McKay spoke about his enthusiasm for the upcoming Nightwing movie. “It’s gonna be a badass action movie with a lot of heart and emotion,” he said. “It’s gonna be a crazy, fun ride. It’s gonna be real stuntwork, and they’re gonna need to do all of the stuff on camera and do it credibly. For the cast and the crew, it’s gonna be a visceral experience, and for the audience. It’s not gonna be like a lot of these movies where there’s a lot of CG and flying, and things like that. Everything he does is gonna have to be real.” Read more here.

JOKER IS LIKE BATMAN

Comic book movie fans will be aware that Mother director Darren Aronofsky was once lined up to direct an adaptation of Batman: Year One following the box office disaster of Batman & Robin. And in a new interview, Aronofsky has spoken about the proposed Joker solo movie, saying it closely resembles his original Dark Knight pitch. “I was like: we’re going to shoot in East Detroit and East New York. We’re not building Gotham. The Batmobile – I wanted to be a Lincoln Continental with two bus engines in it.” Read more here.

THE LEGO MOVIE 2

They may have lost their seat in the director’s chair on the Han Solo spin-off, but Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning to the world of bricks and blocks for The LEGO Movie 2. “The team is all back together, so it’s Phil Lord and Chris Miller, myself and Chris McKay,” Dan Lin told Collider. “Mike Mitchell is the new voice who’s coming in to direct the movie. Chris and Phil are rewriting the script right now, but we’re in production. We’re picking up where the first movie left us, where the Duplo have now come and they’re attacking Bricksburg. It’s several years later, and you’re going to see the result of that.” Read more here.

LANDIS SLAMS – AGAIN

After taking shots at The Marvel Cinematic Universe and The Dark Universe, An American Werewolf in London director John Landis has turned his attention to Lucasfilm and Star Wars. “They’re not hiring people who have opinions. They think, ‘He knows what he’s doing, I’m not hiring him!’ Look at Star Wars. They keep firing guys. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, those guys are really talented. They’re really funny and original guys. They shot 75% of the movie and I gotta tell you, it doesn’t speak well for the new Lucasfilm. How many directors have they fired? Four. How many writers? Twelve.” Read more here.
