Westworld’s Evan Rachel Wood says the audience are supposed to work out the twists

September 15, 2017 by George Chrysostomou

Speaking to Vulture, Evan Rachel Wood took a break from talking about her new projects, to answer a few questions about Season 2 of HBO’s acclaimed drama series Westworld.

Not only teasing that there may be more than one world visited in the next season (with the first season of Westworld teasing a Samurai World), Wood – who plays Dolores, a robot who seems much more developed than the others in the park – states that the twists and turns that are featured in the series are there to be worked out by the audience.

“Usually I’m like, ‘Okay, I think I have an idea of where this is going,’ and then the payoff is always so incredible, so much bigger than I could ever imagine. I think the same goes for the audience — you’re supposed to figure out the show, and even if you do, it’s okay because the payoff will always be way more than you could ever dream up.”

A big part of Westworld was fans trying to work out where the series was going, with some of the biggest twists actually being very popular fan theories before they came to fruition in the show. With the showrunners playing with this, and still exceeding expectations, it shows the quality of the writing in the series. With production well underway and a trailer already released, we should be getting more news on the second season soon ahead of its premiere in 2018.
