Wonder Woman helps Warner Bros. win the summer box office

September 5, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Warner Bros. has won the summer box office contest thanks to films like Wonder Woman and Dunkirk.

Besting its studio competition in a poor summer for Hollywood will certainly please WB, with the studio bringing in $790 million domestically. Unfortunately, for WB this was 7% down from last year.

Warner Bros. can thank the success of films like Wonder Woman and Dunkirk for its cinematic triumph. Wonder Woman has accumulated all kinds of achievements on its way to $409 million.

Dunkirk has fared well at the box office as well, performing above expectations to bring in $180 million so far.

WB shouldn’t feel too bad in its numbers dipping compared to last year, however, as other studios fell such as Disney (-39%), Universal (-34%) and Paramount (-33%).

Disney’s summer total came to $739 million, down from 2016’s $1.2 billion. Disney, however, is still leading 2017 overall with a figure $1.4 billion.
