Henry Cavill keen to “show Superman in his full colors”, contracted for one more DC movie

November 21, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In the build up to the release of Justice League, Henry Cavill revealed that he felt the resurrected Man of Steel in Justice League is “the first time we see the true Superman” in the DCEU, and now the actor has been talking to The Los Angeles Times about how this sets the stage to tell a definitive Superman tale going forward.

“He’s definitely different from previous incarnations,” said Cavill with regards to Justice League’s Superman. “I feel like this is the natural progression from the end of Man of Steel into what he is now. This is a rebirth of the character, to coin the D.C. comics franchise right now: It’s a refresh. This movie highlights the qualities of Superman that exist in the comic books. That’s something I’ve always been very keen to highlight in the character. This rebirth provided the opportunity for me to play those characteristics.”

“There’s a wonderful opportunity to tell the Superman story,” Cavill continued, revealing that his current contract with DC and Warner Bros. runs for one more movie. “Now there is a fantastic chance to show Superman in his full colors and tell a very complex, character-driven movie that is based on story and have that wonderful sensation of hope and happiness. A feel-good movie with lessons laced in there as well.”

DC is reportedly developing a Man of Steel sequel, and would presumably want to include Superman in Justice League 2, but given the underperformance of the first team-up movie, the future of the DCEU seems a little unclear at present. Let us know how you’d like to see DC proceeding with Superman in the comments below…

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West and Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf.
