Margot Robbie confirms “totally separate” Harley Quinn movie

December 1, 2017 by Matt Rodgers

As the DCEU fallout continues, one of the undoubted highlights of the much maligned universe is Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn. No matter your opinion of Suicide Squad as a movie, Robbie’s performance as the anarchic antihero is an undeniable high point. So the news that the actor is developing her own ‘totally separate’ outing for the baseball bat wielding, bubble gum blowing baddie is welcome indeed.

While speaking to MTV, Robbie revealed the following about the project, which will be independent of Gotham City Sirens, the rumoured ‘Harley and Joker’ spin-off, and the Suicide Squad sequel:

“It’s hard to talk about it because this stuff is under lock and key, but I’ve been working on a separate spin-off Harley thing for a while now. It’s a totally separate one. There’s a lot going on right now and honestly I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to be the next thing to happen, but I think everyone is keen to get Harley back on screen, so everyone is working on lots of different versions of what that could be.

“I want to see her with other women. I kept saying when we were shooting Suicide Squad, ‘She needs her girlfriends. She needs other girls around her because she loves that.’ And you see it in the comics, she loves meeting people, any people, but she needs a little girl gang.”

As things stand we have Gavin O’Connor signed on to direct Suicide Squad 2, David Ayer working on Gotham City Sirens, and Glenn Ficarra and John Requa on-board for the Harley and Joker flick, but would you rather see a Margot Robbie backed Harley Quinn solo-outing leapfrog these to the front of the release queue? Let us know what you think in the comments below…
