Ewan McGregor on the Obi-Wan movie and what he thought of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

January 8, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

It’s not exactly a Rey’s parentage sized secret that Ewan McGregor would love to don the cowl once again and play Obi-Wan Kenobi in the planned Star Wars spin-off. He’s clearly a huge fan, as his pre-Prequel enthusiasm would suggest, and has even grown some Ben Kenobi style facial fur over the past few weeks.

So unsurprisingly, after picking up the Golden Globe for Best Performance By An Actor In A Limited Series Or A Motion Picture Made For Television for his work on Fargo season 3, McGregor was asked about the potential Star Wars standalone.

“It’s just that. There’s a lot of talk,” said McGregor. “I’d be happy to play him again. I don’t know any more about it more than you do”.

It’s as vague as Old Ben himself would be, but at least the actor is staying in the picture by responding positively to the suggestions. It’ll also help with the Disney hierarchy that the actor appeared to fall into the ‘like’ category when it comes to the divisive The Last Jedi. McGregor revealed that he “saw the new one over Christmas” and “thought it was really, really beautiful. I loved it.”

With Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy confirming that the studio is now planning the next ten years of Star Wars post-Episode IX, including Rian Johnson’s new trilogy, the forums can begin heating up as to who should join Obi-Wan on the spin-off roster.
