Rumour: The Penguin could be the villain in The Batman or Birds of Prey

May 31, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Taking things with a pinch of salt has become paramount when it comes to discussing the ever-changing world of the DCEU, and in divulging a rumour about the potential villain in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Variety’s Justin Kroll has tweeted a similar caveat when revealing that The Penguin could be the film’s Dark Knight nemesis.

Take this with a grain of salt as things are constantly changing in the DCEU but I'm hearing the Penguin is possibly the choice to play the main villain in THE BATMAN. Sources add even if Reeves decide to go another route the studio could then make him the main villain in BOP

He went on in a further tweet to reveal that The Penguin, brilliantly portrayed by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, was also the subject of one of the submitted scripts for the Margot Robbie-headlined Birds of Prey movie, which is currently in development at Warner Bros.

Reeves is still working on the script, so that could always change but of the multiple BIRDS OF PREY scripts submitted, one does have the Penguin as the main heavy. Either way, it seems WB wants this character cast in the universe sooner rather then later.

So there you have it, Oswald Cobblepot could be returning to the streets of Gotham in at least one of the DCEU’s future films. Would it be a welcome return for the character, or would you rather they concentrated on getting Batman right before pulling The Penguin from the sewers? Let us know what you think about these rumours in the comments section below…
