James Gunn suggests that angry Star Wars fans seek therapy

July 5, 2018 by Samuel Brace

James Gunn has suggested that therapy might be a good solution for the toxic portion of the Star Wars fan-base.

We are hearing more and more about the way in which some members of the Star Wars fandom have been treating individuals associated with the films, especially in the aftermath of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

We also learned this week that the actor behind Jar Jar Binks even considered suicide due to vitriol he received. In response to this story, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn tweeted a message to fans of the Star Wars franchise:

“Star Wars (or any movie) may be important to you, but it doesn’t belong to you. If your self-esteem depends on how good you think the current Star Wars is, or your childhood is ruined because you don’t like something in a movie, GO TO THERAPY.”

Gunn also acknowledged in a separate tweet that criticism of a film is fine and so is not enjoying a Star Wars movie, but that this doesn’t need to turn into hatred and anger. Was Gunn on point with his remarks? Let us know in the comments below…
