The CW adds a Batwoman series to its DC slate

July 17, 2018 by Gary Collinson

The CW is adding another DC superhero show to its slate, with the network announcing that a Batwoman TV series is in development and will premiere in 2019.

THR reports that Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) is writing the Batwoman pilot and will also executive produce the series with DC veteran Greg Berlanti and former DC President and CCO Geoff Johns.

It had already been announced that Batwoman will be joining the Arrowverse, with the character set to appear in the four-way crossover between Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. A potential casting breakdown recently surfaced online.

The original Batwoman, Kathy Kane, made her first appearance in the DC universe in 1956; however, the show will focus on the modern version of the character, Kate Kane, who debuted in 2006. The logline for the show reads:

“Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Are you excited about a Batwoman series at The CW? And does this open the door for an eventual Batman appearance in the Arrowverse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments…
