Sony adds Kraven the Hunter movie to its Spider-Man spinoff universe

August 3, 2018 by Gary Collinson

With the release of Venom fast approaching, it seems that Sony Pictures has added another project to its Spider-Man spinoff universe with Collider reporting that Richard Wenk (The Equalizer 2) has been tapped to pen the script for a Kraven the Hunter film.

The film will mark the live-action debut of the fan-favourite villain, who has frequently been rumoured as a potential antagonist for Spider-Man on the big screen. However, with Spidey absent from this cinematic universe, it begs the question just who – or what – Kraven will be hunting in his solo film…

Venom, perhaps?

Kraven was previously set up by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb for an appearance in The Sinister Six and The Amazing Spider-Man 3, although obviously those plans did not materialise. He was rumoured to appear in Silver & Black (a project which now seems to be on hold), while Black Panther director Ryan Coogler recently revealed that he initially wanted the character for a role in the MCU blockbuster.

Kraven the Hunter joins a number of Spidey spinoffs in the works at Sony; in addition to the aforementioned Venom and Silver & Black, the studio is also working on Morbius – with Jared Leto cast as the Living Vampire – as well as Nightwatch and Silk.

Are you excited about the prospect of a Kraven the Hunter movie, and who do you think would be a good fit for the role? Let us know in the comments below…
