Kristin Chenoweth won’t be returning in American Gods season 2

October 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

After making a guest appearance in the first season of the Starz TV show, Emmy-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth has confirmed that she won’t be reprising the role of Easter, the goddess of spring and resurrection, in the second season of the Neil Gaiman adaptation American Gods.

“I couldn’t come back without him,” said Chenoweth regarding her friend Bryan Fuller, who along with co-showrunner Michael Green both exited the show after its first season. “It wouldn’t be right… Let me just say this: Those people are also my family, it came out of [author Neil] Gaiman’s brain, who is a genius. But ultimately…I mean, Bryan’s my guy.”

Chenoweth is the second cast members to exit the show in support of Fuller, with Gillian Anderson announcing back in January that she had opted against a return to her role as Media.

Starz has been struggling with the second season of American Gods, with Fuller and Green’s replacement Jesse Alexander “sidelined” as showrunner last month and the production said to be behind schedule and over budget. Nevertheless, we did get a first teaser trailer for season two at New York Comic Con this month ahead of its arrival at some point in 2019.
