The titles for James Cameron’s four Avatar sequels may have leaked

November 3, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Despite being in production for over a year, we’ve seen and heard very little about James Cameron’s four Avatar sequels, with not so much as a single spy photo emerging from the New Zealand set of the sci-fi blockbusters.

Avatar 2 (which is being shot back-to-back with Avatar 3) isn’t slated to arrive until December 2020, so we’re probably a good year or so out from the start of the marketing campaign.

However, it seems we may now have the titles – or at least the current titles – for the four movies, with BBC News reporting that it “has seen documentation regarding future Avatar plans which makes reference to four specific projects”, and those are:

  • Avatar: The Way of Water
  • Avatar: The Seed Bearer
  • Avatar: The Tulkun Rider
  • Avatar: The Quest for Eywa

Whether all of these titles are accurate or not we won’t know for certain until Avatar 5 lands in 2025 (assuming no more delays), but we’ve known for a while now that Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are set to explore the oceans of Pandora, so The Way of Water would certainly make sense in that regard.

Avatar 2 will open on December 18th 2020, followed by Avatar 3 on December 17th 2021, Avatar 4 on December 20th 2024 and Avatar 5 on December 19th 2025. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver all reprise their roles from the first film, while new additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Duane Evans Jr.
