Exclusive interview with White Boy Rick director Yann Demange

Director Yann Demange’s new film White Boy Rick is set for release in the UK this week, and Flickering Myth’s Thomas Harris got to sit down with the filmmaker to discuss the acclaimed crime drama, the casting of newcomer Richie Merritt, and Merritt’s chemistry with co-star Matthew McConaughey. Set in 1980s Detroit at the height of the crack epidemic and the War on Drugs, WHITE BOY RICK is based on the moving true story of a blue-collar father and his teenage son, Rick Wershe Jr., who became an undercover police informant and later a drug dealer, before he was abandoned by his handlers and sentenced to life in prison.

White Boy Rick is set for release on December 7th and features a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Richie Merritt, Bel Powley, Brian Tyree Henry, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rory Cochrane, RJ Cyler, Jonathan Majors, and Eddie Marsan.
