Henry Thomas to play Dr. Mid-Nite in DC’s Stargirl

December 19, 2018 by Gary Collinson

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and The Haunting of Hill House star Henry Thomas has become the latest addition to the cast of DC Universe’s Stargirl series, where he’ll portray Dr. Charles McNider, a.k.a. Dr. Mid-Nite.

The official character breakdown for Thomas’ Dr. Mid-Nite describes him as “a brilliant and forward-thinking medical pioneer, and a founding member of the JSA. With his trusty owl, he acts as the team’s resident doctor and detective.”

Dr. Mid-Nite is the latest Justice Society of America character to be cast in the series, following hot on the heels of Joel McHale (Community) as Starman, Lou Ferrigno Jr. (S.W.A.T.) as Hourman, and Brian Stapf (The Walking Dead) as Wildcat.

Stargirl follows High School sophomore Courtney Whitmore, who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past and will reimagine the character and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a “fun, exciting and unpredictable” way.

Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) leads the cast of the series as Courtney Whitmore/Stargirl, along with Anjelika Washington (Young Sheldon), Yvette Monreal (Matador) and Christopher James Baker (True Detective) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.

Stargirl will premiere on DC Universe in August 2019.
