Ghostbusters sequel will reportedly follow four teens

January 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week came the rather exciting news that Jason Reitman, son of Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II helmer Ivan Reitman, is set to revive the original Ghostbusters continuity (and ignore the events of the 2016 reboot) with a new sequel, set to land in the summer of 2020.

While the news caught everyone by surprise, Production Weekly claims to have the inside scoop on the plot for the new movie, posting a listing which states:

“The main characters will be 4 teens: 2 boys, 2 girls. A family moves back home to a small town where they learn more about who they are.”

Now, that’s likely to be disappointing for anyone who was expecting a straight-up Ghostbusters 3 with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson taking centre stage once more, but it makes sense that – even if the original cast does return – we’ll see a passing of the torch to a younger generation. And, if the description is accurate, it sounds like this younger generation will actually be the children of one (or more) of the original Ghostbusters…

It’s worth noting that Production Weekly’s info isn’t always accurate, but with filming expected to get underway in the next couple of months we should expect to hear some official news soon. In the meantime, let us know what you make of this rumoured concept in the comments below or on Twitter @FlickeringMyth.
