UPDATE: Armie Hammer debunks rumour he’s in “advanced talks” to star in Matt Reeves’ The Batman

February 19, 2019 by Matt Rodgers

UPDATE: Armie Hammer has now debunked the report himself, telling Yahoo! UK that: “No one who can actually give me the job has asked me if I’m interested. I don’t even know if they’re done – I think they’re still working on a script. I don’t think that they’re close to production but I can conclusively tell you that no one has checked my availability, which is a bummer.”

Original story follows…

Armie Hammer has long been considered the frontrunner to don the cape and cowl recently discarded by Ben Affleck for Matt Reeves’ long-gestating The Batman. Now Revenge of the Fans is reporting that the Lone Ranger and Call Me By Your Name actor is in “advanced talks” with Warner Bros. for a role he seemed destined to play over a decade ago.

However, before we start fitting him for a suit he’s been eyeing up since 2007’s cancelled Justice League Mortal, insiders have been quick to come forward to debunk this rumour, with The Hollywood Reporter’s Bory’s Kit saying “there is no truth” to the story.

I’m not in the business of debunking bunk but considering everyone got in a tizzy over this…there is no truth to the below. Being told there haven’t even been any actor meetings for THE BATMAN. (But that doesn’t mean Reeves and WB don’t have ideas of who they would like) https://t.co/8CB8aHARID

He was backed up by The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez, who tweeted “Armie Hammer. Batman. Not true”, before revealing that he’d also had confirmation from the studio and agency that no talks had taken place.

Armie Hammer. Batman. Not true.

I just checked with the studio

Much like the entirety of The Batman‘s production process, it seems like this one will rumble on for a bit until we actually know who’s going to be the hero we need right now. The question we want to ask you is, who is the hero you want? Do you have your heart set on Hammer, or would you like them to cast a younger Dark Knight, like the early rumours had hinted at? As always, let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…
