First trailer for Ava DuVernay’s Central Park Five drama When They See Us

Netflix has released the first trailer and a batch of images for its limited series When They See Us. Directed by Ava DuVernay, the series tell the story of the Central Park Five – five teenagers of colour who were wrongfully convicted of a rape and assault they did not commit and spans the 25 years between the time they were questioned in 1989 to 2014 when the men were exonerated of the crime; take a look here…

Based on a true story that gripped the country, When They See Us will chronicle the notorious case of five teenagers of color, labeled the Central Park Five, who were convicted of a rape they did not commit. The four part limited series will focus on the five teenagers from Harlem — Anton McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise. Beginning in the spring of 1989, when the teenagers were first questioned about the incident, the series will span 25 years, highlighting their exoneration in 2002 and the settlement reached with the city of New York in 2014.

When They See Us arrives on Netflix on May 31st and features a cast that includes Asante Blackk, Caleel Harris, Ethan Herisse, Marquis Rodriquez, Jovan Adepo, Justin Cunningham, Chris Chalk, Freddy Miyares, Jharrel Jerome, Michael K. Williams, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Blair Underwood, Christopher Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Omar J. Dorsey, Adepero Oduye, Famke Janssen, Aurora Perrineau, William Sadler, Aunjanue Ellis, Kylie Bunbury, Marsha Stephanie Blake, and Storm Reid.
