Paul Rudd joins Ghostbusters 2020, Annie Potts confirms Janine Melnitz return

June 27, 2019 by Ricky Church

It looks like we can now expect another new face to the upcoming Ghostbusters film which now seems to be going under the title Ghostbusters 2020. Sony Pictures and Variety have revealed Avengers: Endgame’s Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the latest actor to join the anticipated film. The studio made the announcement via the film’s Twitter page in a short video.

“I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for Wet Hot American Summer at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe,”  said director Jason Reitman.

According to Variety, Rudd will play a teacher in the film. He’s star alongside Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War), McKenna Grace (Gifted) and Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things).  The new film is expected to be an “extension of the original Ghostbusters and focus on a single mom and her family”. Coon will play the mother while Grace and Wolfhard her children.

It’s unclear at the moment exactly who from the original Ghostbusters film and its 1989 sequel will be returning, but Sigourney Weaver has revealed that she will reprise her role as Dana Barrett and seemed to confirm the return of the original core cast as well. Annie Potts, who played the Ghostbusters’ secretary Janine Melnitz in both o fthe original films, has also confirmed that she will reprise her role too.
