Filming begins on Penny Dreadful spinoff City of Angels, first look image released

Back in November it was announced that Showtime and creator John Logan are returning to the world of Penny Dreadful for the spinoff series / “spiritual descendant” Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, and now the network has announced that production is officially underway with the release of a first-look image featuring stars Daniel Zovatto and Nathan Lane.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels takes place in Los Angeles in 1938 and follows Detective Tiago Vega (Zovatto) as he finds himself investigating a grisly murder which sets in motion a story that delves into the rich history of the city.

Also featuring in the cast alongside Zovatto and Lane are Natalie Dormer, Rory Kinnear, Piper Perabo, Thomas Kretschman, Ethan Peck, Kerry Bishé, Johnathan Nieves, Jessica Garza, Adriana Barraza, Michael Gladis, Amy Madigan, Brent Spiner, Lorenza Izzo, Lin Shaye and Adam Rodriguez.

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is slated to premiere on Showtime in 2019.
