Neil Marshall fills out the cast of horror The Reckoning

August 12, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Following the disappointing Hellboy reboot (where he reportedly endured a rather torrid time), Dog Soldiers and The Descent director Neil Marshall is going back to his roots for his next project, the low-budget period horror The Reckoning, and Deadline has revealed that the British filmmaker has filled out the cast of the movie.

Set to join the previously announced Charlotte Kirk (who has co-written the script with Marshall and The Descent’s Edward Evers-Swindell) are Sean Pertwee, Joe Anderson, Steven Waddington, Leon Ockenden, Emma Campbell-Jones, Callum Goulden, Suzanne Magowan, Indianna Ryan, Mark Ryan, Oliver Trevena and newcomer Sarah Lambie.

The Reckoning takes place in England during the Great Plague and follows Evelyn Haverstock (Kirk), a young widow, haunted by the recent suicide of her husband Joseph (Anderson), who finds herself falsely accused of being a witch by her jealous Landlord, Squire Pendleton (Waddington), after rejecting his unwanted advances. Imprisoned, Grace endures physical persecution at the hands of England’s most ruthless witch-hunter Judge Moorcroft (Pertwee), and as to face her own inner demons as the devil himself starts to work his way into her mind.

“The Reckoning is more than just a movie to me,” states Marshall. “It’s a story, based on real events, that needs telling, but most of all it’s a chance for me to return to my horror roots and, just as I did with Dog Soldiers and The Descent before it, scare the proverbial sh*t out of audiences around the world! This film is the product of a unique and highly creative collaboration, and I have assembled an incredible array of talent, both in front of the camera and behind, to bring this powerful story to life. So be warned, The Reckoning is coming…”
