Vampirella celebrates Black History Month with special variant covers

January 31, 2020 by Gary Collinson

In collaboration with Dynamite Entertainment, writer and editor Christopher Priest is celebrating Black History Month and paying tribute to the contributions of creators of color on his Vampirella run with four covers for Vampirella #8 inspired by a simple premise – reimagining the Daughter of Drakulon as if she had been inspired by African American women. Check out the variant covers from Denys Cowan, Alitha Martinez, Mark Beachum and Afua Richardson, along with a Cosplay variant featuring cosplayer Mai…

“It is a significant and unique gesture on Dynamite’s part to work with me to acknowledge the contributions of African American artists in this industry with a set of covers exclusively developed by artists of color,” said writer and editor Christopher Priest. “Both my veteran buddies and inspiring boundary breakers creating their own unique expressions of our favorite Vampiri.”

Here’s a look at the rest of the variant covers for the issue…

Mysterious alien creatures secreted within the mountains of the British Virgin Islands capture Vampirella and transport her home to Drakulon just as Vampi’s best bud, Benny the Witch, is about to become a human sacrifice. Will Vampirella give up life on her home world to save yet another human? Will Benny be the guest of honor at a native barbecue?

Vampirella #8 will go on sale on February 19th 2020, priced $3.99.
