Taika Waititi denies he’s been approached to direct a Star Wars movie

Taika Waititi, director of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit, has denied that he’s been approached to direct a Star Wars movie.

Fans are eagerly anticipating news of the next era of Star Wars movies and when it was reported that Taika Waititi had been approached to direct a film, there was a lot of excitement. Being director of the Disney-owned Thor: Ragnarok and episodes of The Mandalorian, it was also easy to believe.

However, Waititi has now denied that he’s been approached by Lucasfilm. Speaking to ET during an interview at the Oscars luncheon, the director said: “Listen, what does ‘approached’ even mean? I’ve seen Star Wars, that’s about as far as it got.”

Of course, the director’s involvement with the Star Wars TV show The Mandalorian shows his relationship with the brand is far closer than he is trying to make out but perhaps he is telling the truth. We will have to wait and see.
