Disney finds its Peter Pan & Wendy for live-action remake

March 14, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Disney has found its leads for Peter Pan & Wendy, with young actors Alexander Molony (The Reluctant Landlord) and Ever Anderson (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter) set to portray the two characters in the Mouse House’s live-action adaptation of its 1953 animated classic.

David Lowery (Pete’s Dragon) is set to direct the new adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s classic novel, which was initially considered as an original production for the Disney+ streaming service a la Lady and the Tramp, but is now being targeted as a theatrical release.

2019 was a strong year for Disney and its animated remakes; while Tim Burton’s Dumbo struggled, both Aladdin and The Lion King proved to be smash hit successes, each grossing over $1 billion apiece at the global box office.

Disney was set to release Mulan this month, but the film has been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, while the studio has also just shut down production and pre-production on all of its current live-action projects – including Peter Pan & Wendy and The Little Mermaid, the latter of which was set to begin filming this coming week.
