Sonic the Hedgehog star James Marsden on his hopes for the potential sequel

April 13, 2020 by Liam Waddington

While a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t officially been greenlit by Paramount as of yet, star James Marsden has revealed his hopes for a potential future instalment.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Marsden stated that he hopes the sequel will have more set pieces and action sequences than the first instalment as well as the inclusion of more beloved characters from the video game.

“Well I think we’d do a lot more of the same, but we would probably hopefully throw even more set pieces in there and more action sequences,” Marsden said. “I think we’d hopefully introduce some new characters, some beloved characters from the video game. If you stayed through the credits, you saw a little introduction to Tails. Hoping we’d see Tails come in. You know, who knows? The good thing is, is that hopefully when we come back to earth after this thing and we’re still making movies, that Paramount will really fire it up again, and we’ll just have double the fun.”

Although a sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog hasn’t been officially confirmed by Paramount as of yet, it does seem inevitable after being positively received by critics and audiences alike and proving to be a hit financially after earning just over $300 million at the worldwide box office while also breaking the domestic opening weekend record for video game movies.

Additionally, Marsden has previously stated in an interview on Variety’s The Big Ticket podcast, that he is already signed on for multiple sequels – hinting that a future instalment with the iconic video game character seems likely at this point.
