Thor: Love and Thunder won’t feature the Silver Surfer, but it will have Space Sharks

April 10, 2020 by Gary Collinson

On Thursday evening, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi hosted a live viewing party of his 2017 Marvel blockbuster alongside stars Tessa Thompson and Mark Ruffalo, during which he shared a few tidbits of information on the next instalment of the God of Thunder’s solo series, Thor: Love and Thunder.

“It’s like 10-year-olds told us what should be in a movie and we said yes to every single thing,” teased Waititi, who then went on to reveal that his character Korg will once again be joined in the film by his best buddy Miek.

Waititi wouldn’t be drawn on whether Loki (Tom Hiddleston) or the fan favourite Beta Ray Bill will featyre in Love and Thunder, although he did shoot down the possibility of the Silver Surfer making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the film. We will however apparently be seeing the Space Sharks (a.k.a. the Starsharks), who are literally a race of extra-terrestrial shark-like creatures that “swim” through space.

In Marvel’s comic book continuity, Thor has encountered the Starsharks as they orbited around the planet of the cosmic villain Gorr the God Butcher… could this perhaps offer a clue as to the identity of Christian Bale’s bad guy? Only time will tell…

Thor: Love and Thunder sees Thor: Ragnarok’s Taika Waititi returning to the director’s chair and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie) and Waititi (Korg) all reprising their MCU roles and Christian Bale (Ford v Ferrari) starring as the main villain. It is set for release on February 18th 2022.
