Producer Frank Marshall hopes to see more Bourne movies

May 26, 2020 by EJ Moreno

The long-running Bourne franchise has not seen a new entry since 2016’s Jason Bourne. The film marked the return of Matt Damon to the series after Jeremy Renner stepped in for 2012’s The Bourne Legacy.

While speaking to Collider about his upcoming documentary Laurel Canyon, franchise producer Frank Marshall has discussed his interest at returning to the action series. He even expressed interest in trying things out with a new creative team as well.

“I do like the Bourne series, and I do think that’s an opportunity for different filmmakers to come in now,” says Marshall to Collider’s Christina Radish. “So, I’m hoping that we can find a new story for Bourne and a new filmmaker. We are looking.”

In the era of action films like John Wick and Upgrade taking the genre into a new direction, Bourne is due for another re-invention. The franchise kicked off a frenetic-style of action movement in the 2000s with The Bourne Identity and will need to shake things up once again to keep up with its peers.
