Charlize Theron says The Old Guard cast is hoping that they can make a sequel

July 23, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Charlize Theron, the star of the Netflix feature film The Old Guard, says that the film’s cast is on board with making a sequel.

Netflix’s latest feature film effort The Old Guard seems to be going down quite well with subscribers, with the platform revealing it is already in the top 10 most-watched Netflix films ever and is on track to reach 72 million households.

With these kinds of numbers, Netflix must be considering a sequel and star Charlize Theron says that the cast is on board too. Speaking to Variety’s Marc Malkin, the actress said:

“We’re still pushing this one out. Let’s have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I’m sure when it’s the right time, we’ll start the conversation.”

The Old Guard has a pretty healthy 72% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes so if the interest is there, it looks like a sequel could well be a possibility.

Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (LOVE & BASKETBALL, BEYOND THE LIGHTS), THE OLD GUARD is a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.
