The Mandalorian star says the Darksaber is key to Moff Gideon’s past

July 29, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Giancarlo Esposito, one of the stars of The Mandalorian, says that the Darksaber is the key to Moff Gideon’s past.

The Mandalorian is fresh off 15 Emmy nominations and fans are looking forward to season two when it debuts this Autumn on Disney+.

One thing fans are desperate to find out about is how Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon came to be in possession of the Darksaber – a legendary weapon utilised by Mandalorian leaders. Well, it looks like we will be getting all the details in season two as Esposito told Deadline:

“You’ll see more of the Darksaber, you’ll get the explanation of this ancient weapon to the modern world, a collapsed world. Where did this saber come from and how was it revived? It’s a key in our second season, which will be back sooner than later. (The saber) is a key to Moff Gideon’s past, which possibly has a lot to do with where he comes from and his desire to build a planet and bring it back together.”

With these words from Espositio, is it possible that Gideon is actually a Mandalorian himself? His comments about building “a planet” and bringing it “back together” could be a reference to Mandalore and its people, suggesting Gideon has a personal stake in its future? The Mandalorian season two is set to premiere in October 2020 and sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) alongside new cast additions Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified) and Michael Biehn (The Terminator).
