Kyle MacLachlan shares his excitement for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot

August 30, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Kyle MacLachlan, the star of 1984’s Dune movie, says that he is really looking forward to watching Denis Villeneuve’s new adaptation.

When it comes to compelling sci-fi films, director Denis Villeneuve really seems to have the recipe down after Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. This certainly makes his adaptation of Dune for the big screen a very exciting prospect.

Dune has made it to the cinemas before, with David Lynch’s 1984 effort, and the star of that film, Kyle MacLachlan, has revealed that he is excited about Villeneuve’s version.

Speaking to Collider, the actor said: “It makes me feel old. I’m really curious. [Denis Villeneuve] is a terrific filmmaker. He’s an extraordinary filmmaker, and his approach will be interesting. The cast is amazing. I think he’s done a beautiful job. Timothée Chalamet will be wonderful as Paul. I’m looking forward to it. I love that world so much. I’m a huge fan of the book. I’ve read the book, many, many, many times, both before we did the film and after we finished our film. It remains one of the anchors, really, in terms of the books that I return to, that made a big impression on me, when I was growing up. It was maybe number one. So, yes, I will always look for and watch anything that has to do with Dune.”

Dune certainly promises to be one of the big film events in the near future. Hopefully, Villeneuve has found the secret to adapting the daunting sci-fi epic for the big screen.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) and sees Timothee Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) leading the cast alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Dave Bautista (Avengers: Infinity War), Stellan Skarsgard (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again), Charlotte Rampling (Red Sparrow), Zendaya (Spider-Man: Far From Home), Javier Bardem (Loving Pablo), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Josh Brolin (Avengers: Endgame), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Sex Education), and Chang Chen (The Assassin).
