Nightmare-Inducing Video Game Villain Designs

August 21, 2020 by Red Stewart

Red Stewart presents frightening character designs in video games…

Fear comes in many forms, but visuals are the number one factor. Iconic horror villains are best remembered for their disgusting looks: Freddy’s burnt face in A Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason’s bloodstained mask in the Friday the 13th franchise stand out as some of the more potent examples.

Video games, being a medium primarily driven by artistic endeavors, have embraced this method of optical trepidation, creating some of the most nightmare inducing imagery to ever grace the entertainment industry. From Lovecraftian creatures to mutating humans, here are five of the scariest designs for a video game antagonist.

Which video game villains gave you nightmares? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth, and if you haven’t already then be sure to give us a subscribe over on YouTube for more videos and exclusive content.
