SpongeBob spinoff The Patrick Star Show in the works at Nickelodeon

August 15, 2020 by Gary Collinson

SpongeBob SquarePants’ best friend Patrick Star looks set to get his very own TV show, with Deadline reporting that Nickelodeon is working on the animated spinoff The Patrick Star Show.

According to the trade’s sources, the new series “is in the vein of The Larry Sanders Show and Comedy Bang! Bang!” and will see Patrick (once again voiced by the returning Bill Fagerbakke) hosting his own late-night talk show.

While characters from SpongeBob SquarePants are expected to make occasional appearances, the show will revolve around Patrick and his family, and feature a largely new voice cast and characters. Voice work is already believed to be underway, although as yet there’s been no official word on any additional castings.

The Patrick Star Show becomes the second SpongeBob spinoff in the works after the upcoming Kamp Koral, a CG-animated prequel series which was initially set up at Nickelodeon but will now be shown on CBS All Access (also the exclusive streaming home of the new The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run).
