Enola Holmes director teases the direction of potential sequels

September 26, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Earlier this week, Netflix released the Millie Bobby Brown-starring Enola Holmes and while there isn’t any official confirmation on whether the film will receive a sequel, director Harry Bradbeer has been discussing the potential follow-up(s).

During an interview with Decider, Bradbeer discussed his optimism and hopes about developing “five more movies” while teasing the directions the future instalments could potentially take.

“Well, I hope I’d have the energy for that, yeah. That would be amazing,” Bradbeer said. “Someone’s going to have the energy for it! It’d be wonderful to get five more movies out of this scene. I do think they’re extraordinary stories to tell, and what a period. As you go forward, things like that three-wheeled car — which was a lovely thing we discovered — to find our characters playing on some of the new contraptions, at some point in the early 20th century. Of course, we get airplanes and the Wright brothers. Who knows what other challenges are going to come out of this really restless, productive period.”

Bradbeer continued by revealing that talks have happened with the streaming service about developing future instalments but can’t confirm anything officially as of yet.

“There’s discussion. I can’t really say,” he added. “It’d be crazy of me to say! I think we would love it, if it would happen.”

Enola Holmes follows the titular character as she wakes up to find that her mother has disappeared and left behind an assortment of gifts with no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. The film features a cast including Millie Bobby Brown as Enola Holmes, Sam Claflin as Mycroft Holmes, Henry Cavill as Sherlock Holmes, and Helena Bonham Carter as Eudoria Holmes.

England, 1884 – a world on the brink of change. On the morning of her 16th birthday, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) wakes to find that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, leaving behind an odd assortment of gifts but no apparent clue as to where she’s gone or why. After a free-spirited childhood, Enola suddenly finds herself under the care of her brothers Sherlock (Henry Cavill) and Mycroft (Sam Claflin), both set on sending her away to a finishing school for “proper” young ladies. Refusing to follow their wishes, Enola escapes to search for her mother in London. But when her journey finds her entangled in a mystery surrounding a young runaway Lord (Louis Partridge), Enola becomes a super-sleuth in her own right, outwitting her famous brother as she unravels a conspiracy that threatens to set back the course of history. Based on the beloved book series by Nancy Springer, ENOLA HOLMES is a dynamic new mystery-adventure that introduces the world’s greatest detective to his fiercest competition yet: his teenage sister. The game is afoot.
