Survival horror The Infected gets a new update

September 11, 2020 by Andrew Newton

DigX Studios has announced the release of Alpha 3.0 for their sandbox, survival horror The Infected.  This latest update adds a wealth of new features to the game as well as changes and bug fixes.

Update 3.0 places an emphasis on base building by introducing a new construction material, Planks. Planks will now be required to build specific things such as foundations and walls but also used to craft items like storage chests.  To create planks players will need to craft the Sawbench which will convert one log to two planks (although this seems a small amount of planks to me).  Of course, once players get moving there’s going to be a need to store these planks somewhere so there’s also the addition of a Plank Stand.

A selection of new construction sections are also available to help players complete their bases. These sections are:

  • Flat Roof.
  • Slopped Roof.
  • Single Foundation Roof.
  • Interior Half Wall.

Bones have been added to the game and can be obtained from killing animals in the same way that meat and fat is gained.  These bones can then be turned into shards at the advanced workbench and used to upgrade stone spears and stone arrows.  A bone Spear will provide 30% more damage than its stone counterpart while Bone Arrows will provide a smaller 5% damage bonus over the stone arrow but will never break and can ALWAYS be collected.

This update has answered the prayers of players by adding a Log Cart. This item can be crafted like any other placeable but once built can transport up to 11 logs easily.

Update 3.0 has made changes that in some cases will be a relief to the community, from now on picked up arrows will go directly to the quiver so no more having to do this manually. The Stone Spear will now require sticks to make rather than firewood and most wood construction parts have been replaced by planks.

The Infected is available now on Steam Early Access for £10.99.
