Giancarlo Esposito says The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon is the “warden of the galaxy”

October 28, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Giancarlo Esposito, who plays the villain Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, says the character is the “warden of the galaxy”.

Moff Gideon certainly made a big entrance towards the end of The Mandalorian season one but we still don’t know much about the villain, except that he is a former Imperial and has designs on Baby Yoda.

What his plan is exactly, we will have to wait and see but actor Giancarlo Esposito has described the character in an interesting way ahead of Friday’s season two premiere. Speaking to Good Morning America (via Star Wars News Net), the actor said:

“My character, Moff Gideon, is the warden of the galaxy. He is a remnant of the Imperial Empire, and he is still searching for his quarry, which we’ll hope he’ll find.

“I’m so happy to be part of a show that really depicts a story about humanity and heroism. Y’know, to be a hero is something that we all aspire to. I play some villains, but I really love the hero, and we need to be empowered by heroes today.”

Gideon’s tussle with Din Djarin over the fate of Baby Yoda should make for some excellent viewing over the coming weeks. It’s going to be fun to see how it all plays out and what Gideon is up to.

The Mandalorian season two is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 30th and sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by new cast additions Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.
