Stargirl casts DC villains Eclipso and The Shade for season 2

October 28, 2020 by Ricky Church

Deadline has revealed that The CW’s Stargirl has cast its primary villains for season two. Nick Tarabay (The Expanse) will star as Eclipso in a regular role while Jonathan Cake (The Affair) has been cast as The Shade in a recurring role. Additionally, Ysa Penarejo (Project Mc2) has been cast in a mysterious recurring role.

Tarabay’s Eclipso was teased in the first season when the diamond that holds Eclipso’s entity was stolen. Anyone who comes in contact with the diamond is corrupted and taken over by Eciplso’s essence. He is described as “an ancient entity of corruption and vengeance. Brimming with a cold, terrifying darkness, he exploits the flaws of others, reveling in the impure and sinful, sadistically feeding off the dark side of humanity.”

Cake’s The Shade is “an English immortal, is a classic antihero from DC Comics who wields magical shadow powers. Tall and slim with an elegant 19th century way to his speech and manners, he masks the horrors he’s experienced and people he’s lost in all the time alive with wry, witty retorts and a false sense that nothing really matters.”

Created and executive produced by Geoff Johns, Stargirl centers on teenager Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger), who discovers the cosmic staff and assumes the identity of Stargirl. After joining the JSA, Stargirl becomes an inspiration to a new generation of superheroes. The character was created by Johns and Lee Moder with the superheroine based off Johns’ late sister.
