David Cronenberg returning to Star Trek: Discovery

December 16, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Legendary filmmaker and sometimes actor David Cronenberg makes it clear that he loves the Star Trek franchise. The 77-year-old Canadian director, known for The Fly and Videodrome, appeared in Star Trek: Discovery recently and is looking to make his return to the series.

The series recently began production on its fourth season in Toronto, and Cronenberg will return as 32nd century Federation official Kovich. When asked how he got involved in the project, he jokingly said, “I’m cheap, and I’m available,” but added he’s mostly just a big fan of the original series.

He also opened up about the acting style and the role in more detail, stating: “I am an obedient actor. And [I’m] trying to bring the music out of the dialogue. It’s very interesting dialogue. It’s not easy because not naturalistic, obviously. At times, my character, in particular, is going into a kind of a sci-fi technological monologue. It’s difficult to bring out the music in that and have some emotion in it, so it’s not just dry technological stuff. That’s quite an acting challenge and quite a lot of fun.”

Star Trek: Discovery is currently in its third season, airing on CBS All Access.
