Pedro Pascal knew Baby Yoda’s name before shooting The Mandalorian season 2

December 30, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Pedro Pascal, the star of The Mandalorian, says he knew that Grogu was Baby Yoda’s real name before filming season two.

One of many big reveals from The Mandalorian season two was that Baby Yoda’s real name was Grogu. Along with his name, we also learned that Grogu was trained at the Jedi temple on Coruscant and someone saved him from the slaughter during Order 66.

While the name of Grogu has now become familiar to us, how long did Grogu’s adopted father Pedro Pascal know about the name? The actor, who plays Din Djarin, has told Entertainment Tonight that he wasn’t shocked by the reveal as he learned the name before season two even began filming:

“I did know. [I knew] at the start of season two. When I got the scripts for season two. For it [The Mandalorian] to be as good as is it they are well prepared to start shooting. My favorite thing about it is how part of the creative process [I am.] I’m invited to at least observe, experience and contribute you know, whatever will occur to me [Din Djarin.] Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni get me the scripts before we get into shooting so I know it all.”

Unfortunately, the season two finale saw Din and Grogu separated when Luke Skywalker arrived to take Groug away for his Jedi training. However, Din did promise to see Grogu again so we as the audience will certainly be holding him to that!

The Mandalorian season two sees the returning Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Bill Burr (Mayfield), and Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand) joined by the likes of Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Rosario Dawson (Daredevil), and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.
