Rick Grimes will not be in The Walking Dead: World Beyond season 2

December 2, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Scott Gimple, the chief content officer for The Walking Dead franchise, says that Rick Grimes will not appear in The Walking Dead: World Beyond season two.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond has been revealing various details surrounding Rick Grimes’ disappearance from the main show, leading many to believe Rick will turn up in the series sooner or later.

It didn’t happen in season one and we can now confirm that it won’t happen in season two either. Scott Gimple, the chief content officer for the franchise, confirmed the news to ComicBook.com when asked if an appearance by Rick was likely in season two:

“You know what? I’m very happy to say… I’m not happy to say the answer. I’m happy to be definitive with people. It is not…That’s one, I don’t know if people are being cagey about that. But I feel that one’s important not to be cagey about. I think people could watch this show and learn a lot about the mythology that Rick Grimes is caught up in. And they might even see places where Rick Grimes has been. But yeah, he’s not swinging around the corner. And I don’t even know if I’m making people upset saying that, but I just don’t like people watching it, sort of expecting Rick.”

While some fans will be disappointed, it’s good that Gimple has made things clear so no one will be misled or disappointed down the road. The plan is still to have Rick appear in a movie and who knows, perhaps he might even turn up in the show’s final ever season.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond expands the universe of The Walking Dead, delving into a new mythology and story that follows the first generation raised in a surviving civilization of the post-apocalyptic world. Two sisters along with two friends leave a place of safety and comfort to brave dangers, known and unknown, living and undead on an important quest.  Pursued by those who wish to protect them and those who wish to harm them, a tale of growing up and transformation unfurls across dangerous terrain, challenging everything they know about the world, themselves and each other.  Some will become heroes.  Some will become villains.  But all of them will find the truths they seek.

Created by Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Matt Negrete, The Walking Dead: World Beyond features a cast that includes Aliyah Royale as Iris, Alexa Mansour as Hope, Annet Mahendru as Huck, Nicolas Cantu as Elton, Hal Cumpston as Silas, Nico Tortorella as Felix, Julia Ormond as Elizabeth, Natalie Gold as Lyla, Al Calderon as Barca, Scott Adsit as Tony and Ted Sutherland as Percy.
