Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett confirmed as its own series

December 21, 2020 by Gary Collinson

During the post credits scene of The Mandalorian’s season two finale, it was revealed that Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett is set to return once more in 2021 for The Book of Boba Fett, although it wasn’t quite clear whether this would be a spinoff series, or the third season of The Mandalorian.

Well, we now have the answer thanks to the official Star Wars social media channels with the announcement that Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett is indeed its own series, with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez producing, and Morrison leading the cast alongside The Mandalorian co-star Ming-Na Wen.

The Book of Boba Fett, a new Original Series, starring Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen and executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and Robert Rodriguez, set within the timeline of The Mandalorian, is coming to @DisneyPlus Dec. 2021. pic.twitter.com/YT2zbLufI8

“We didn’t want to spoil the surprise during the big Kathleen Kennedy announcement of all the shows [during Investor Day earlier this month], so they let me keep this one a secret, ” Jon Favreau tells Good Morning America. “So this is actually separate from The Mandalorian season 3. But what we didn’t say in that announcement is the next show coming up — what Kathy called ‘the next chapter’ — is going to be The Book of Boba Fett, and then we go into production right after that on The Mandalorian, back with the main character that we all know and love… pretty soon following that. There’s a lot of Star Wars content coming out, I think they announced 10 projects, I think this will be 11.”

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett becomes the third spinoff from The Mandalorian after the recently announced Star Wars: Ahsoka and Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic, all of which are set in the same timeline. Those aren’t the only live-action Star Wars shows heading to Disney+ either, as we also have Star Wars: Andor, Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars: Lando and Star Wars: The Acolyte to look forward to over the coming years.
