Avengers: Endgame was originally going to have a post-credits scene with Vision, says Paul Bettany

January 24, 2021 by Gary Collinson

One of the many, many questions coming out of the initial episodes of Marvel’s WandaVision concerns the return of Vision, whom we last saw lying dead in the aftermath of the Avengers’ defeat against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.

The answer to that question will surely be revealed as the series progresses, but actor Paul Bettany has revealed that the original plan was to set up Vision’s Phase Four return with a post-credits scene in Avengers: Endgame.

“At one point I was going to be in a tag, where you opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision,” said Bettany. “Kevin kind of talked to me and said, ‘I’ve got to pull the shots.’ I was like, ‘Ugh!’ Because I really wanted that profit participation (laughs).”

Given that Endgame became the highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.798 billion, it’s not hard to imagine a fairly hefty pay cheque ended up on the cutting room floor with the scene.
