Jim Gaffigan joins Peter Pan & Wendy as Mr. Smee

January 21, 2021 by Ricky Church

Disney’s upcoming live-action Peter Pan and Wendy, a remake of the classic animated film, has found its Mr. Smee. According to The Wrap, Jim Gaffigan (Tesla) will portray Captain Hook’s first mate.

Smee is described as “Captain Hook’s loyal first mate, but due to his bubbling personality, he doesn’t always offer much help.” In the original animated film, Smee was voiced by Bill Thompson while on the live action side he has been portrayed by Bob Hoskins in Hook and Adeel Akhtar in the 2015 prequel Pan.

Gaffigan joins the previously cast Jude Law (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) as Peter Pan’s nemesis Captain Hook, Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) as Tinker Bell, Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson as Wendy and Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Napes Kasêkipatwât/The Boy And The Braid) as Tiger Lily.

Director of the Pete’s Dragon remake David Lowery is on board to helm the project from a script co-written with Toby Halbrooks. They’ll look to tackle Disney’s 1953 animated movie, which was based on the character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie in 1902.
