Horror franchises Paranormal Activity and Pet Sematary to see new entries at Paramount+

February 25, 2021 by EJ Moreno

Paramount+ will be scaring its viewers with two of the biggest horror franchises.

During the Paramount+ investor presentation, we learned that the streaming is looking to become the home of the found footage film franchise Paranormal Activity and the Stephen King-inspired Pet Sematary.

The new Blumhouse Paranormal Activity will see Will Eubank helm the project. Christopher Landon makes his return to the haunted franchise, returning as a writer following his directorial effort with Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. The long-running found footage franchise has grossed over $890 million globally.

After a panned 2019 entry, Pet Sematary will return with another feature film effort. This time though, the filmmakers will use Stephen King’s original novel as an inspiration to craft an origin story for the supernatural cemetery. Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce the prequel, and Jeff Buhler will pen the script.

The original Pet Sematary film premiered in 1989 and grossed $57.5 million at the box office. It spawned a 1992 sequel called Pet Sematary Two. Directing duo Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer helmed the 2019 remake.

Paramount+ will also house another horror film, The In-Between. It stars Joey King, Kyle Allen, John Ortiz and Kim Dickens. Arie Posin directed a script from Marc Klein, who came up with the film’s idea.
