John Wesley Shipp returning as Golden Age Flash in DC’s Stargirl season 2

February 21, 2021 by Gary Collinson

John Wesley Shipp is heading back to the DC Universe, with Entertainment Weekly reporting that he is set to reprise his Arrowverse role as Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash, in the upcoming second season of The CW’s Stargirl.

The outlet reports that Shipp will appear “in a pivotal flashback episode” where it will be established that his Jay Garrick is “the Golden Age Flash as a member of Earth-2’s Justice Society of America.”

The appearance is being described as a “miniature crossover” which will “officially bring Stargirl [Brec Bassinger] into CW’s post-Crisis CWverse alongside The Flash, Superman & Lois, Batwoman, Black Lightning, Supergirl, and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.”

Originally intended as an HBO Max series, Stargirl aired simultaneously on the streamer and The CW during its first season, before becoming a CW exclusive from season two. As established in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, Stargirl takes place on Earth-2, with the rest of the Arrowverse shows existing in Earth Prime.

Shipp’s first brush with The Flash came in the live-action series from 1990, where he portrayed Barry Allen. He first appeared in the Arrowverse as Henry Allen, father to Grant Gustin’s Barry, and has since featured as both the Barry Allen and Jay Garrick incarnations of the speedster.
