Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic no longer in active development

May 22, 2021 by Gary Collinson

During last year’s Disney Investor Day conference, Lucasfilm announced a raft of Star Wars television projects in the works for Disney+, including several spinoffs from The Mandalorian in Star Wars: Ahsoka, Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic and Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, all of which would culminate in a “storytelling event”.

Well, it seems those plans have now changed, as Variety is reporting that Rangers of the New Republic is no longer in “active development” at Lucasfilm and appears to have been shelved completely.

While it was never officially confirmed by Lucasfilm, Rangers of the New Republic was expected to follow the character of Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, who found herself axed from the Star Wars galaxy by Disney back in February following “abhorrent and unacceptable” posts on social media.

With that in mind, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that the project is no longer moving forward, and hopefully it won’t have too much of an impact on Lucasfilm’s overall story plans for The Mandalorian and its associated companion shows.
