Tom Welling wants to play Superman alongside Robert Pattinson’s Batman, open to cameo in The Flash

May 9, 2021 by Gary Collinson

While he was infamously reluctant to don the iconic costume during his time on Smallville and only featured as a depowered Clark Kent for The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths event, it seems that actor Tom Welling is open to suiting up as Superman, either for a cameo in The Flash movie or a World’s Finest team-up alongside Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight.

“Yeah, I think that would be cool,” Welling told El mundo geek de Ernestoneitor on YouTube (via CBM). “My buddy Rob Pattinson, he is going to be the new Batman. I would love… it would be fun to be the Superman that shows up in his movie, just because he is a friend of mine. Who knows.”

While a crossover with Smallville is unlikely to be high on the list of priorities for Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves when it comes to following up The Batman, the fact that The Flash looks set to play on the multiverse aspect of the DC Universe certainly sets the stage for a few non-DCEU cameo appearances to clearly establish the concept.

WB does have several past Supermen at its disposal should it decide to go down the Man of Steel cameo route (see Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin), but Welling in full Superman mode would be something fans are yet to see.
