Dwayne Johnson to star in holiday action-adventure Red One for Amazon Studios

June 29, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Currently filming his long-gestating DC passion-project Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson is wasting no time lining up his next films, the latest of which will be Red One, a holiday action-adventure for Amazon Studios.

Variety reports that Red One will reunite Johnson with his Hobbs & Shaw scribe Chris Morgan, for a “globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy” which will open up “a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.”

Hoping to make their own mark in the action-blockbuster department after the recent big-budget acquisitions of Without Remorse and The Tomorrow War, Amazon Studios clearly envisage big things for their team-up with Johnson, heralding Red One as “a property that could encompass not only a tentpole film, but could reach beyond entertainment across multiple industries and businesses.”

Johnson is not averse to a streaming service deal either, with Netflix’s $200M action-comedy Red Notice already in the can awaiting a release date.
