Oscar Isaac is The Card Counter in trailer for Paul Schrader’s new film

August 12, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Universal has released a UK trailer for the revenge thriller The Card Counter. Directed by Paul Schrader (First Reformed), the film stars Oscar Isaac as an ex-interrogator turned gambler who sees a chance at redemption from his past actions when he is approached by a young man seeking revenge against a military colonel. Watch the trailer here…

“Tell (Oscar Isaac) just wants to play cards. His spartan existence on the casino trail is shattered when he is approached by Cirk (Tye Sheridan), a vulnerable and angry young man seeking help to execute his plan for revenge on a military colonel (Willem Dafoe). Tell sees a chance at redemption through his relationship with Cirk. Gaining backing from mysterious gambling financier La Linda (Tiffany Haddish), Tell takes Cirk with him on the road, going from casino to casino until the unlikely trio set their sights on winning a World Series of poker tournament. But keeping Cirk on the straight-and-narrow proves impossible, dragging Tell back into the darkness of his past.”

The Card Counter arrives in cinemas on September 10th in the US and on November 5th in the UK.
