A haunting Christmas in store for Torchwood this December in The Grey Mare

September 13, 2021 by Andrew Newton

Get ready for a spooky Christmas adventure this December as Big Finish Productions will release a new audio drama titled Torchwood: The Grey Mare.  In an all new adventure, Torchwood’s Ianto Jones comes face to face with an ancient and alarming Welsh folk myth of a skeletal horse.

The Mari Lwyd is a Welsh Christmas folk myth of a skeletal horse that roams the streets, knocking at doors and begging to be let in for food and warmth.  Once this horse knocks on a door only the most cunning can send her away.

In Torchwood: The Grey Mare, Ianto decides to visit a small remote Welsh village for a peaceful Christmas but when Mari Lwyd starts knocking the myth very much becomes reality.  Will Ianto be able to have a peaceful Christmas after all?

Writer James Goss said: “It’s Torchwood’s second Christmas Ghost Story! Lauren and Stewart have written a folk horror based around the Welsh tradition of the Mari Lwyd and it’s spooky, enchanting, funny and nasty. Just like the best Torchwood. Can Ianto enjoy a quiet Christmas alone? Spoiler: No.”

Torchwood: The Grey Mare will feature a full cast of actors with Gareth David Lloyd reprising his role as Ianto Jones.

Torchwood fans can pre-order a collector’s edition CD at £10.99 or a digital edition at £8.99 from the Big Finish website.
