First trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed The Lost Daughter starring Olivia Colman

October 20, 2021 by Amie Cranswick

Netflix has released a poster and trailer for The Lost Daughter. The drama marks the feature directorial debut for Maggie Gyllenhaal and stars Olivia Colman as a woman who finds her vacation take a dark turn when she begins to confront the memories and troubles of her past; take a look here…

Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda (Olivia Colman) becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. Unnerved by their compelling relationship, (and their raucous and menacing extended family), Leda is overwhelmed by her own memories of the terror, confusion and intensity of early motherhood. An impulsive act shocks Leda into the strange and ominous world of her own mind, where she is forced to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.

Joining Colman in the cast of The Lost Daughter are Jessie Buckley, Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard, Dagmara Dominczyk, and Paul Mescal.

The Lost Daughter arrives in select cinemas and on Netflix on December 31st.
